So our plan was to do as much work as possible ourselves especially while we wait for the main building work to start. We had also planned to practically complete the front (master) bedroom so that when the builders moved in we would be able to 'live' in this room without interruption from the builders. The first action was to get rid of the peach wall paper which is a running theme around the house. Dave had decided to take a week off work to et a few things done and this was the first job he completed.
From the word go Dave had been especially excited about the prospect of stripping wood and sand stuff - I think this came under the headline of 'things a MAN would do' So armed with what my mum described as her 'R-Royce of hot air guns' Dave got to work on the door frames. Our dream being that we would strip them back to discover some of Britain's finest ever wood door frames that we could wax. Alas, not so. There were about 27 layers of paint including some very suspect brown thick paint that seemed to have seeped into the wood and meant that the only way to completely remove it from the wood would be to sand the wood back so far you were left with nothing - good bye country style wooden door frames - hello classic painted door frames.
